Masters

master_topAt the heart of comparison measurement are the masters. Obtaining precise quantitative dimensional data requires using masters of known value. This is accomplished by having ring and plug gages which are manufactured from American Gage Design Standard chrome alloy steel blanks, heat treated, cold stabilized and conforming to A.N.S.I. B47.186. Air Gage Product’s masters are manufactured to industry standards and can be provided with certificates of calibration traceable to the National Institute of Standards Technology (N.I.S.T.) in Washington DC.

MASTER RINGS are used to calibrate air probes (air spindles, air plugs, etc.) and other types of bore gages for internal diameters. They can be ordered with “Bilateral”, “Go”, or “No-Go” tolerance depending on the application. Weather dual master or single master systems are being calibrated, Air gage Products recommends using bilateral tolerance which would be closest to the gaging limits.

MASTER PLUGS are used to calibrate Air-Rings and are available in several styles. Master set discs come with plastic grips. Tri-loc, Reversible and Taper-loc plugs come with polished aluminum handles, either double ended or single ended. Serial numbers or customer tool numbers can be engraved at no additional charge.

The Gagemaker’s Tolerance Table below provides a guideline for choosing a “Class” or tolerance for your masters. Class “XX” is usually recommended for most Air Gage applications.
